The Koru Games Hockey Competition will be played under the FIH Rules of (11-a-side) Hockey unless stated below.

1. All games will be played in the spirit of ‘Fair Play’. To mark this all players will shake hands before and after each game.
2. Games will be played on a third of a turf.
3. Games will consist of 12 minute halves, with a two minute half time.
4. Interchanges can happen by either team at any time, interchanges must be taken from the defensive half of the turf.
5. Unlimited interchanges in each game.
6. All players must wear a mouth guard and shin pads at all times while playing.
7. Playing on the third turf there shall be no outs on the sidelines, the sides can be used to keep the ball in play. If the ball goes over the baseline this is deemed out.
8. A long corner "half way" is awarded if the ball is unintentionally touched by a defender before going over the backline.  Play will resume with a free hit for the attacking team, in line from where the ball went out.
9. Goals may only be scored from within the scoring zone.
10. No lifting, if the ball is raised above knee height and deemed dangerous a free hit will be awarded to the opposition.
11. No penalty corners, instead a long corner is played.
12. All players must be 5 metres from the ball when a free hit is taken.
13. Umpires can issue a one minute suspension for repeated negative offences and a three minute suspension for serious intentional offences.

Goalies

1. Seven-a-side competition will include padded goalies 
2. If your school does not have a student available to play goalie, feel free to connect with other schools in your area.
3. If your school needs support with goalie equipment - please contact your local hockey club to discuss borrowing some.
4. If your school cannot borrow goalie equipment please contact events@selwynsportstrust.org.nz 
5. The mixed social grade six-a-side will not have goalies as part of the competition.

Mixed tournament only. There are no minimum requirements of either gender required to enter (e.g. it can be a girls only team).

The Hockey tournament has a mixed competition only. They will play round robin games in pools, the results of which will give seeding for a knockout round resulting in overall placings.

We are committed to using this tournament as a development for youth officials.  Each team will need their own referee and whistle, we encourage you to use senior student referees from your School or a Highschool near you.  Otherwise a parent/caregiver/coach will be great. Upskilling can happen prior to the tournament for those that need it.

All teams/schools need to have first aid support onsite.

Habit Health will be at the Rolleston Hub to support competitors throughout the Games.
